Terms of service
Fresh Off Patent ("we", "us") is a sole proprietorship based in Atlanta, Georgia. These terms cover your use of freshoffpatent.com and our emails. By using either, you agree to them.
Not legal advice
Everything we publish is research information, not legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created. A patent shown as lapsed may be revived, may have related patents still in force, and may sit alongside design patents, trademarks or other rights we don't track. Our descriptions and scores are produced partly by software, including language models, and can be wrong. You are responsible for confirming patent status and getting a freedom-to-operate opinion before you make, sell or import anything.
Accounts
You sign in with a link sent to your email, so keep access to that inbox to yourself. You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to buy a paid plan. Each paid account is for one person, so please don't share or resell your access or our content.
Paid plans and automatic renewal
Pro and Studio are subscriptions billed in advance through Stripe, monthly or yearly depending on the option you choose. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, online, from your account page (which opens Stripe's billing portal); cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've paid for, and you keep access until then. Stripe emails a receipt for each payment.
If you're not satisfied with your first month or first year, email us within 14 days of the first charge and we'll refund it in full. Otherwise payments are non-refundable, except where the law requires a refund. If we change a plan's price, we'll email you at least 30 days before the new price applies to your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
Beta pricing. While Fresh Off Patent is in beta we may offer a discount on plans and credit packs, shown at checkout. A subscription started with the beta discount keeps it for as long as it stays active without a break; if you cancel and later subscribe again, the price at that time applies.
Prices are in US dollars. You're responsible for any taxes that apply to your purchase.
Our content
Patent documents themselves are public. Our write-ups, scores, selections and lists are ours. You can use them for your own product research and quote short excerpts with a link. Don't republish them in bulk or use them to build a competing service.
Acceptable use
Don't scrape the site, probe it for vulnerabilities, or interfere with other users.
No warranty; limit of liability
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions you make based on our content, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
