Questions

How many picks are there each week?
It depends on the batch. The latest list, for the week of Oct 5, 2026, has 197 consumer products and 75 picks in other areas such as software and medical devices, out of 3,852 patents that lapsed that week plus those that reached the end of their full term. Free readers get the top five; Pro members get all of them.
Is a lapsed patent safe to copy?
Not automatically. The patent itself has ended, although owners revive about 1.5% of lapsed patents, and a product can also be covered by related patents, design patents or trademarks. We flag the related patents we can find, but you should treat every pick as a lead and get a freedom-to-operate check before you invest in tooling.
What does "Lapsing soon" show?
It lists consumer-category patents whose owners have missed a maintenance fee and are now in the final six-month grace period. Many of those owners will pay late, but the ones who don't will appear in a weekly list a few months later, so Studio members can start their research early.
Can I cancel?
Yes, at any time from your account page, and you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
Do you offer refunds?
If your first month (or first year) isn't useful to you, email hello@freshoffpatent.com within 14 days and we'll refund it in full.
